MANGUS LITERARY GROUP

Beyond the Deal: Building Author Careers, Not Just Books.

Literary representation for authors beyond the book deal.

Mangus Literary Group represents serious nonfiction, memoir, and public-figure authors with a publisher-first, author-choice approach. Traditional representation is commission-based and never contingent on purchasing services.

For authors seeking development or publishing support, our separately operated studio provides transparent, fixed-scope options—while preserving the author’s freedom to choose independent providers and publishing paths.

What Makes Mangus Literary Group Different

Why Authors Choose Mangus Literary Group

Mangus Literary Group (MLG) is a commission-only literary agency for memoir, sports memoir, and authority nonfiction. Here is what you can expect, in plain terms.

  • We evaluate before we pitch. Every manuscript gets a real editorial pass before it goes on submission, including developmental notes, structural feedback, and line-level polish. Publishers buy manuscripts that are ready, and we make sure yours is. As an MLG representation client, you don’t pay us for the editing required to prepare your manuscript for submission.
  • We know what editors want. Our team has built proposals and manuscripts from the inside, through ghostwriting, book architecture, and developmental editing across memoir, nonfiction, and thought leadership. We shape your project the way acquisition editors expect to see it.
  • We fight for the right deal, not just a deal. Representation means advocating for the right publisher, advance, contract terms, and long-term career path. We track every submission, editor conversation, and response, so you always know where your book stands.
  • We think beyond the book. A book deal is a milestone, not a finish line. From day one, we consider your platform, audience, and career trajectory, so each project builds toward the next.
  • We’re open about how we get paid. We earn a commission only when we represent and sell your book. We charge no reading or submission fees.

Agency Intelligence

A literary agent represents an author’s interests to publishers — pitching manuscripts, negotiating contracts, and guiding career strategy. At MLG, representation means active partnership: we work closely with each author from proposal to publication.

Mangus Literary Group is actively seeking exceptional non-fiction authors, industry leaders, entrepreneurs, executives, public figures, subject-matter experts, and celebrity personalities with compelling stories and transformative ideas.

Our primary areas of interest include:

  • Leadership and Executive Strategy
  • Business and Entrepreneurship
  • Celebrity Memoirs and Personal Memoirs
  • Politics and Public Affairs
  • Current Events and Social Issues
  • Personal Development and Self-Improvement
  • Health, Wellness, and Human Performance
  • Faith, Inspiration, and Purpose-Driven Living
  • Professional Expertise and Thought Leadership
  • Narrative Non-Fiction and Investigative Works
  • History, Culture, and Contemporary Society

We represent authors whose work combines authoritative expertise with compelling storytelling. Whether you are sharing a lifetime of leadership experience, documenting a remarkable personal journey, or presenting ideas that shape industries and influence culture, we seek manuscripts with exceptional writing, a distinctive voice, and significant commercial potential.

Our editorial and publishing team looks for projects that educate, inspire, challenge perspectives, and create meaningful conversations in today’s marketplace. We are particularly interested in books that establish authors as recognized experts, expand personal brands, and resonate with both national and international audiences.

At Mangus Literary Group, we partner with writers whose work has the potential to become influential books that leave a lasting impact on readers while achieving strong commercial success.

Please Note: We are not currently seeking children’s picture books, poetry collections, highly technical academic texts, or specialized scholarly publications intended for limited academic audiences.

Authors submit a query letter and sample materials for review. If it’s a fit, we move to a discussion about representation and next steps toward publisher submission. (Link to Submissions page.)

Jeffrey Mangus is the founder of Mangus Literary Group and a veteran ghostwriter/publishing strategist with 45+ published titles, including 10 Amazon #1 bestsellers, and placements with HarperCollins Leadership, Blackstone, and other major publishers.

MLG is a literary agency — we represent authors to publishers on a contingency basis. MLG is affiliated with Mangus Media Group (MMG), a separate publishing services company; any potential referral is fully disclosed, and representation decisions are always made independently, based on project merit.

AALA Disclaimer: Mangus Literary Group has applied for AALA membership; that application is currently pending. Use of MLG’s services does not imply or guarantee literary representation, which is offered solely at MLG’s discretion and formalized only through a signed representation agreement.
